Pond EquipmentPossibly the most critical factor
for clean pond water is good circulation and aeration. Pond pumps vary
in size and flow capacity, so, the one you choose will relate to the volume
of water you need to circulate. Other factors such as the addition of
a waterfall will also determine the size of pump you need. Some of Laguna’s
PowerJet series incorporate a fountain kit as well as a diverter for possible
waterfall capabilities. To determine the volume of water in your pond, use this simple calculation: Rectangle: Length X Width X Average Depth X 7.5 = Total Gallons Round: 0.785 X (Top X Bottom Diameter X Depth) X 7.5 = Total Gallons Ideally, a pump will circulate water every 2 hours. The minimum pump flow rate capacity required for a pond is the total gallons of water divided by 2. The resulting number is the Gallons Per Hour (GPH) flow rate. For ponds which receive little shade, filtration is key in maintaining water. Whether underwater or external, pond filters serve to remove organic waste. UV sterilizers are also important soldiers in the battle against algae formation. Basically, water passes through a chamber exposed to UV light, which sterilizes bacteria in the water. Laguna’s PowerClear UV Sterlizer is an excellent example of quality UV filtration. |
